Lucas:

Buried beneath the light, ghosts and ghouls that lay rest are reawakened, hauled from the thick mud below your feet. Dissected and preserved, they feed off the curiosity of modern minds. All that is gruesome and macabre brought back into consciousness to haunt the walls of your imagination.

Miranda:

Hi, and welcome back to That JORVIK Viking Thing podcast. I'm your host, Miranda Schmeiderer. In Viking times, a Thing was a gathering, a place where leaders and warriors could meet and talk. In the 21st century, our Thing is a virtual place where history academics and enthusiasts from around the world can come together to share knowledge. This October we're stepping into the spookier side of York's history and archaeology. Each week we're releasing an episode that sure to send chills up your spine. First, we'll hear the tale of Roman ghosts that marched through a York cellar and explore the different theories as to how an entire Roman legion disappeared from history. Then we hope you have your brooms ready. We'll be talking about magic and magicians here in Medieval York. If witches don't scare you, what about a mummified cat found in the ceiling of the Lord Mayor's house? Or perhaps you're more curious about the oldest brain ever found in Britain? What about headless Roman skeletons? Surely one of those will be scary enough to haunt your dreams. And finally, we'll be welcoming back our very own skald, Lucas Norton, who will regale us with the tales of the Draugr - Vikings zombies from the sagas of Icelanders, though we do recommend sleeping with your lights on after you've listened. So hold on to your helmets and make sure you hit subscribe so you don't miss a single episode of That JORVIK Viking Thing podcast!
